Quick and Cheap Planted Container
Lilies are a cheap and quick way to add some tropical colours to your garden.
Bulbs are a great value and easy way to add some colour to your garden, or create some exuberantly beautiful containers. Lilies are always a great bulb to use as they grow well in pots as they need well draining soil, and they also look exceptional in them. These are truly beautiful and make for a tropical display.
For this you will need:
1 x outdoor pot (with diameter of 20- 25cm) and with a drainage hole .
1 x bag of multipurpose compost
3 x packs of lily bulbs.
How to make your pot:
#1. Fill your pot with gravel/broken stones at the bottom. Then use a good multipurpose compost and fill half the pot. Make sure the compost is 4/5inches deep.
#2. Take the lilies out of the bag and make sure the roots are visible, and the pointy side is facing up. Place five well spaced on top of the compost.
#3. Fill the pot with the remaining compost. Don’t fill to the top completely, leave a couple of fingers down from the top of the pot free from compost. This is because the compost will expand once you have watered it.
#4. Shake the pot gently so the compost becomes level and then place in a cold greenhouse or close to the outside of the house against the wall.
#5. Water in well and then check if it needs watering every week consequently. You will have beautiful flowers in 8-10 weeks time!
