Brighten Up Your Life!
Pots and troughs are fantatsic for brightening up your garden in a quick and simple way. Here we share our top tips for making the most of yours.
#1 Decide on a pot size. Most people think they need fewer plants than they do. In a pot of 40cm you want around five plants - it’s a good idea to consider your budget when buying a pot.
#2 Think about when you want your pot to be at its best and how long you want it to last. Paying a bit extra for a perennial plant to use as a centre piece will mean that you need to change fewer plants each year. Also remember that, whilst with borders you should plan for plants to come out at different times, with a pot you want everything to be in flower at the same time! Choose annuals which will flower all through spring and summer to make the most of your display.
#3 Decide on a colour scheme. Do you like hot colours or cool colours or just simple leafy greens? Having a colour scheme can make a pot look like it has been done by a professional!
#4 Think about height and texture. Avoid choosing plants all at one level, and with similar-looking foliage.
#5 Use slow-release fertiliser. These will help keep your pots look really full and healthy for as long as you want them to.
